This article provides an easy-to-understand explanation of the platforms and devices that accelerate the development of 5G, millimeter-wave, and radar.
Development Platform Configuration
This development platform consists of the following boards :
- GRF-AD908x-FMC : FMC board equipped with AD9081 or AD9082
- GIGA-PLL : Signal generator with ADF4371 (provides 6.11 GHZ and 768 MHZ clocks for system use)
- GIGA DAQ : FMC host board (communication with ESD 204 interface of AD9081/AD9082)
- GIGA SOC : platform processor (can switch between AD9081/AD9082 APIs on Linux)
Broadband FMC boards : GRF-AD9081-FMC/GRF-AD9082-FMC
The GRF-AD9081-FMC and GRF-AD9082-FMC are ultra-small multi-channel gigabit sample AD/DA FMC boards. AD9081/AD9082 on the board can be controlled by a dedicated API provided by Analog Devices.
This FMC board is a product that can be used in a wide range of applications, such as the development of research, analysis and test equipment, as well as the integration into wireless devices such as 4G LTE and 5G millimeter-wave wireless communication systems.
Mixed signal front end AD9081/AD9082 for high bandwidth capabilities
The AD9081 and AD9082 are highly integrated devices with multi-channel RF A/D and D/A converters that are ideal for a flexible, reconfigurable wireless common platform design.

AD9081/AD9082 Comparison
Since AD9081 and AD9082 are very high-performance products, they require a considerable amount of development resources to use them. The FMC board provided by Giga Farm solves these problems, because know - how is required for handling the high-speed JESD204 interface.
VCO Integrated Microwave Broadband Synthesizer ADF4371
The ADF4371 on the GIGA-PLL is a synthesizer with a wide continuous RF output range of 62 MHz to 32 GHz and the following excellent features.
- Ultra - low FOM (normalized phase noise floor) : -234dBc/Hz
- High phase frequency detection (PFD) function : up to 250 MHz
- Minimum reference spurious : less than - 100 dBc (typical value)
- Low VCO phase noise (-134dBc/Hz, 1 MHz offset at 8 GHz operating frequency)
- Minimum combined phase noise (jitter) : less than 36 fs (10 GHz)
- Integer boundary spurious (-90dBc, offset from integer channel to 960 kHz)
- Built-in tracking filter for harmonic removal
This ADF4371-based GIGA-PLL is available as an ever-smaller signal generator that provides multiple outputs from the GHz clock to the millimeter-wave clock required by JESD204 devices. The GIGA-PLL can be purchased separately.
